history : Biomass energy covers the entire life of our planet.
This type of energy has been used since the cave-men discovered fire. What is it: Biomass is fuel that is developed from organic materials, a renewable source of energy used to make electricity or other kinds of power. How it is used: The carbon dioxide is returned to the air when the plants are burned. Many different kinds of biomass, such as wood chips, corn, and some types of garbage, are used to produce electricity. Some types of biomass can be made into liquid fuels called biofuels that can power cars, trucks, and tractors. Pros of Biomass: 1. It is renewable. 2. It is carbon neutral. 3. It can be used in many forms. 4. It is widely available. 5. It helps reduce waste. Cons of Biomass: 1.Not totally Clean When Burned 2.Expensive 3.Requires Lot of Space Benefits of the environment: Many biomass fuels make low levels of atmospheric pollutants as sulphur dioxide and CO2. |
